The Pays de la Loire Region is a French territorial authority established in 1956 as a regional action district, later becoming a fully-fledged territorial collectivity following the decentralization laws of the early 1980s. It develops regional planning frameworks, particularly regarding spatial development, sustainable growth, and territorial equality, and implements public policies in coordination with the State, departments, and intermunicipal bodies within its area. It also takes part in territorial cooperation programs and manages European funds allocated to regional development.
