Sobre Moselle (57)
The Moselle Department is a French territorial authority belonging to the Grand Est region, inheriting an administrative division dating back to the French Revolution and marked by a particular history linked to its successive attachment to different sovereignties during the 19th and 20th centuries. Its administrative center is located in Metz, a city that concentrates the main departmental administrative institutions. The Moselle territory is characterized by a border position, adjacent to Luxembourg and Germany, which has shaped its economic, industrial and cultural development over time, notably through the historical exploitation of coal and steel industries, followed by a gradual diversification of its economic fabric.
As a territorial authority, the Moselle Department exercises competencies defined by French law, notably covering social action and solidarity toward elderly people, disabled persons or those in difficulty, the management and maintenance of secondary schools, the development of the departmental road network, as well as support for local cultural, sports and tourism policies. It also intervenes in the field of professional integration and housing assistance, in coordination with other administrative levels and the municipalities located within its territory. Its action is part of a cooperative framework with the State, the Grand Est region and the intercommunal structures of Moselle.
The Department has a structured administrative organization, led by an elected president and a deliberative assembly composed of departmental councilors representing the various cantons of the territory. This organization enables the implementation of local public policies and the management of proximity services intended for residents of the department, in the areas of competence assigned to it. The moselle.fr website constitutes the official institutional portal of the Department, presenting its missions, organization and the public services offered to users of the territory.
