Sobre Metz
The Mairie de Metz refers to the municipal administration of the city of Metz, a French commune located in the Moselle department, of which it is the administrative seat, within the Grand Est region. It is the institution responsible for the local governance of the city, under the authority of a mayor and a municipal council elected by universal suffrage in accordance with the rules applicable to French local authorities. The city of Metz has an ancient history, dating back to the Gallo-Roman period, during which it was already a notable urban center in the region. Over the centuries, it experienced various political statuses, including that of a free imperial city during the Middle Ages, before being attached to the Kingdom of France, and later undergoing periods of German annexation linked to Franco-German conflicts, until its definitive return to France in the twentieth century.
Situated at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers, in a border region close to Luxembourg and Germany, the city is organized around a historic center where the town hall, seat of the municipal administration, is located. This geographic position gives the commune a crossroads role within the Lorraine and cross-border area.
The scope of activity of the Mairie de Metz covers the full range of responsibilities assigned to French communes: civil registry, urban planning and land use, management of primary school facilities, social action, maintenance of roads and public spaces, as well as support for local cultural, sporting and associative activities. It also handles the administrative management of municipal services and the implementation of decisions made by the municipal council, in accordance with the decentralization laws governing the actions of local authorities in France.
The website metz.fr is the institutional website of the city of Metz, providing information about municipal life as well as procedures and services offered to residents.
