Sobre Grand Est
The Région Grand Est is a French territorial authority established on 1 January 2016, following the territorial reform that merged the former regions of Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine, under the law on the new territorial organization of the Republic. It is one of thirteen metropolitan regions of France and is notable for its extensive border position, sharing frontiers with several neighboring countries, including Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
The territory of the Région Grand Est covers a broad area comprising several historic departments, with administrative functions distributed among different seats, notably in Strasbourg, Metz and Châlons-en-Champagne, reflecting the legacy of the three former regions that were merged. The authority is governed by a regional council, a deliberative assembly elected by direct universal suffrage, led by a president and organized into thematic committees responsible for preparing decisions related to the region's various public policies.
