Sobre Corrèze (19)
The Département de la Corrèze is a French territorial authority belonging to the category of departments, created in 1790 as part of the administrative reorganization of revolutionary France. It takes its name from the Corrèze river that flows through its territory. Located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in the southwest of the country, the department borders Haute-Vienne, Creuse, Cantal, Lot, and Dordogne. Its administrative seat is the town of Tulle, while Brive-la-Gaillarde serves as the main economic and demographic center of the territory. The landscape, shaped by the foothills of the Massif Central, forms a contrasted geography of plateaus, valleys, and mid-mountain areas.
As a territorial authority, the Département de la Corrèze exercises competencies defined by law across several areas of public action. It notably intervenes in social policies, managing social assistance for elderly people, persons with disabilities, and child welfare services. It also ensures the management and maintenance of part of the departmental road network, the operation of public secondary schools (collèges), as well as actions related to territorial development, rural planning, and support for municipalities. The department further participates in cultural, tourism, and environmental policies, in coordination with other levels of local government and the State.
The institution is administered by a departmental council composed of elected representatives from the territory's cantons, who vote the budget and determine the direction of departmental policies. This deliberative assembly is chaired by a president elected among its members, responsible for the departmental executive. The Département de la Corrèze thus operates within the French territorial administrative organization, alongside municipalities, intercommunal structures, and the region, contributing to the implementation of local public policies for the benefit of residents of the Corrèze territory.
The website correze.fr is the institutional website of the Département de la Corrèze, presenting its missions, news, services, and practical information for users.
