The Communauté d'Agglomération La Riviera du Levant is a public establishment for intercommunal cooperation (EPCI) located in the Charente-Maritime department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. It results from the grouping of several municipalities north of the La Rochelle area, brought together to share certain competences and to carry out common projects across a coherent living area, combining an urban centre with a rural and coastal environment.
The territory of the agglomeration stretches along the Atlantic coastline and its immediate hinterland, between marshland, agricultural areas and protected natural spaces typical of the Marais poitevin and the Aunis plain. This geographical setting gives the collectivity an identity that blends agricultural, oyster-farming and tourism activities, while placing it within the sphere of influence of the La Rochelle conurbation. The seat municipality hosts the main administrative services of the intercommunal structure.
As an EPCI, the Communauté d'Agglomération La Riviera du Levant exercises mandatory and optional competences defined under French local government law, notably covering economic development, spatial planning, housing, water management and flood prevention, as well as urban policy and certain local services. It also acts in the fields of tourism, culture and the environment, in coordination with member municipalities, the Charente-Maritime department and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its action aims to structure a coherent territorial project, taking into account the rural, coastal and heritage characteristics of its area, while supporting the demographic and economic changes observed in this part of the Charente coastline.
