Sobre Mulhouse
The Mairie de Mulhouse is the municipal administration of the commune of Mulhouse, a city in the Haut-Rhin department, in the Grand Est region of France. It constitutes the executive body of the local authority and implements decisions taken by the municipal council, a deliberative assembly elected by direct universal suffrage for a six-year term. Led by the mayor, assisted by deputy mayors and delegated municipal councillors, it handles the day-to-day management of municipal affairs and legally represents the city in its relations with the State, other local authorities, and institutional partners.
Mulhouse developed historically as an industrial city, notably centered on textiles and mechanical engineering, before gradually diversifying its economic base. A former republic associated with the Swiss Confederation until its incorporation into France in the early nineteenth century, the city has retained an urban identity shaped by this distinctive past. It is today part of the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération intercommunal structure, which brings together several municipalities within the Mulhouse metropolitan area and exercises shared responsibilities in urban planning, transport, and economic development.
The scope of the municipality's activities covers the full range of responsibilities assigned to French communes: civil registry services, management of nursery and primary schools, urban planning and land-use development, local road maintenance, social welfare action, culture, sports and community life, as well as municipal policing. The authority also manages local public facilities such as libraries, municipal museums, green spaces, and sports infrastructure. In addition, the local government participates in urban renewal and sustainable development policies, coordinating with departmental, regional, and national authorities as well as with agglomeration bodies.
The website mulhouse.fr is the city's official institutional website, presenting information on the municipal organization, administrative procedures, local public services, and the local authority's news.
