Sobre Eure-et-Loir (28)

The Eure-et-Loir department is a French territorial authority created in 1790 during the administrative reorganization of revolutionary France. It takes its name from the two rivers that flow through its territory, the Eure and the Loir. Attached to the Centre-Val de Loire region, it constitutes one of the country's historical administrative divisions, equipped with its own institutions, notably an elected departmental council responsible for managing local affairs. Located in the northern part of the Centre-Val de Loire region, the Eure-et-Loir department borders the departments of Loiret, Loir-et-Cher, Orne, Eure, Yvelines, and Essonne, giving it a transitional position between the Île-de-France region and the more rural territories of central France. Its administrative center is the city of Chartres, recognized for its architectural and religious heritage. The departmental territory is characterized by an alternation of agricultural landscapes, particularly the Beauce plain, and more wooded or hilly areas toward the west and south. As a territorial authority, the Eure-et-Loir department exercises competences defined by law in several areas relating to social welfare, territorial planning, maintenance of departmental road infrastructure, management of certain secondary schools, and support for local cultural, sporting, and environmental policies. It also works alongside the municipalities and intermunicipal bodies within its territory, complementing the other levels of French administration, namely the region, the state, and local proximity authorities. Its action fits within the broader framework of French administrative decentralization. The website eurelien.fr is the institutional site of the Eure-et-Loir department, providing information about the authority's competences, services, and news.
