The Communauté d'agglomération - La Région de Château-Thierry (CARCT) is a French intermunicipal body with the status of "communauté d'agglomération", governed by the general code of local authorities. It is located in the Aisne department, within the Hauts-de-France region, in the southern part of the department, near the Marne valley. It is one of the public bodies for intermunicipal cooperation structuring this territory, organized around the central town of Château-Thierry.
The institution emerged as part of the reforms to the intermunicipal map carried out during the 2010s, following mergers and territorial extensions that brought together several former communities of communes located around Château-Thierry. This consolidation led to the formation of a broader intermunicipal grouping, combining urban and rural municipalities in the southern Aisne area, in order to pool certain competences and organize territorial planning on a wider scale. The agglomeration community is thus part of the general movement to strengthen intermunicipal cooperation in France.
In terms of missions, the CARCT exercises the competences usually assigned to an agglomeration community: economic development, spatial planning within the community area, balanced housing policy, urban policy, management of facilities and services of community interest, as well as actions related to the environment, living conditions, culture, tourism, and transport and mobility. It plays a coordinating role among member municipalities, carrying out structuring projects that go beyond the municipal level while respecting each municipality's own competences. Its action notably aims to support the economic and residential attractiveness of the Château-Thierry area, to accompany local development, and to promote a coherent organization of public services across its territory.
