Sobre Communauté d'agglomération - Haguenau
The Communauté d'agglomération de Haguenau is a French public establishment for intercommunal cooperation (EPCI), an administrative structure bringing together several municipalities around the central town of Haguenau, in the Bas-Rhin department, in the Grand Est region. This form of intercommunal cooperation is part of the broader framework of French territorial organization, which allows neighboring municipalities to pool certain responsibilities and coordinate public policies at the level of a coherent living area, while each municipality retains its own institutional existence.
Located in northern Alsace, near the German border and the Strasbourg metropolitan area, the Communauté d'agglomération de Haguenau covers a territory marked by a Rhenish identity and a long-standing industrial and craft tradition. Haguenau, the historic central town and a former imperial city, serves as the main urban and economic hub around which the member municipalities are organized, combining urban, peri-urban, and more rural areas, including the Haguenau forest, one of the largest state-owned lowland forests in France.
In terms of its missions, the agglomeration exercises a set of responsibilities delegated by its member municipalities, notably in economic development, spatial planning, housing and urban policy, public transport, water and sanitation management, waste collection and treatment, as well as actions in environmental matters, culture, sport, and facilities of community interest. It thus acts as an intermediate level between municipalities and the department, tasked with carrying structural projects and promoting coherent planning across the territory. The website agglo-haguenau.fr is the official institutional site of the local authority, presenting its responsibilities, organization, news, and practical information intended for residents and local stakeholders.
