About Grand Annecy
Grand Annecy is a French intercommunal authority (communauté d'agglomération), a local government body governed under the legal framework for public establishments of intercommunal cooperation (EPCI). It was created on 1 January 2017 through the merger of the Communauté de l'agglomération d'Annecy with several neighbouring communities of communes, as part of the territorial reorganisations resulting from French local government reform laws. This merger created one of the main intercommunal structures in the Haute-Savoie department, bringing together municipalities of varying size and character around the central city of Annecy.
The territory of Grand Annecy lies within the Haute-Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, surrounding Lake Annecy and the neighbouring pre-Alpine mountain ranges. It comprises around thirty member municipalities, ranging from densely urban areas close to Annecy to more extensive peri-urban and rural spaces, across a landscape shaped by alpine foothills and a strong presence of lake and mountain environments.
As a public establishment of intercommunal cooperation, Grand Annecy exercises powers delegated by its member municipalities in areas such as spatial planning, economic development, housing, public transport and mobility, water and sanitation management, as well as environmental policy and waste management. It also acts in fields of communal interest such as culture, tourism and social action, in coordination with member municipalities and other local and regional authorities. Its role is to ensure joint planning and management of public services across the Annecy urban and lake basin, complementing the actions carried out by its constituent municipalities.
The website grandannecy.fr is the institutional website of this local authority, providing information about its organisation, powers, news and the administrative procedures available to residents and users of the territory.
