About Communauté d'agglomération - Bassin de Brive
The Communauté d'agglomération du Bassin de Brive is a French public inter-municipal cooperation body (EPCI) bringing together several municipalities around the central town of Brive-la-Gaillarde. It is located in the Corrèze department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in southwestern France. This inter-municipal structure is part of the French territorial organization framework, which encourages the pooling of competencies among neighboring municipalities in order to carry out coherent public policies at the scale of a living area.
The agglomeration exercises competencies in several fields related to territorial planning and local development. It notably acts in economic development, urban planning, housing, public transport, environmental and waste management, as well as in cultural, sporting and tourism matters. These missions aim to structure the territory of the Brive basin, strengthen its attractiveness and improve services provided to residents of the member municipalities. The authority collaborates with its member municipalities, as well as with other territorial levels, such as the department and the region, in implementing projects of common interest.
The territory of the agglomeration community is characterized by the presence of Brive-la-Gaillarde, the most populated town in the area, surrounded by more rural or peri-urban municipalities. This configuration gives the inter-municipal body a coordinating role between urban and rural areas, particularly regarding public facilities, mobility and economic development. The institution thus constitutes an intermediate level of local governance, responsible for carrying forward structuring projects that go beyond the municipal framework while remaining rooted in the realities of the Corrèze territory.
