Über Mairie de Malakoff
The Mairie de Malakoff is the administrative institution responsible for the municipal administration of the commune of Malakoff, located in the Hauts-de-Seine department, in the Île-de-France region. It constitutes a local authority within the inner suburbs of Paris, bordering the capital and neighbouring communes such as Vanves, Montrouge and Châtillon. As the executive and administrative body of the commune, it manages local affairs in accordance with the French general code of local authorities, under the authority of an elected mayor and a municipal council.
The commune of Malakoff takes its name from the Battle of Malakoff, an episode of the Crimean War, and developed from the nineteenth century onward as an industrial and working-class suburb located at the edge of the capital. Established as an independent commune in the late nineteenth century after separating from Vanves, it has retained a popular identity shaped by its industrial past, while undergoing over the decades an urban and demographic transformation characteristic of the near Parisian suburbs. The town hall, situated in the town centre, serves as its historical and symbolic institutional seat.
The scope of activity of the Mairie de Malakoff covers the full range of competences assigned to French communes: civil registry, urban planning, social action, early childhood services, education, culture, sport, roads and public spaces, as well as the organisation of local services for residents. It also oversees local policies relating to housing, sustainable development and community life, in coordination with intercommunal and departmental bodies to which the commune is linked. Finally, it ensures the institutional representation of the commune before other levels of public administration and territorial stakeholders.
