Sobre Mairie déléguée - Châtillon-en-Michaille
The delegated town hall of Châtillon-en-Michaille is an administrative branch of the commune of Valserhône, located in the Ain department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. It corresponds to the former municipal seat of the commune of Châtillon-en-Michaille, which lost its status as an independent commune when Valserhône was created as a new merged commune, combining Châtillon-en-Michaille, Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, and Lancrans, on 1 January 2017. Having become a delegated commune, Châtillon-en-Michaille retained a branch town hall intended to maintain a local presence for its residents and to facilitate access to municipal services in this part of the territory.
Situated in the Michaille area, within the Jura mountain range, close to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, the delegated town hall carries out local administrative functions for residents of the historic Châtillon-en-Michaille sector. It handles matters such as civil status records, public reception, information on local administrative procedures, and liaison with the central services of the new commune. Its scope of action remains limited to the territory of the former commune, within the framework of the delegated commune system provided for under French local government law.
Institutionally, the delegated town hall of Châtillon-en-Michaille forms part of the administrative organization of Valserhône, the territorial authority that exercises the full range of municipal powers across its entire territory. It does not have a legal personality separate from that of the new commune, but it allows for the preservation of a local anchor and a distinct identity for the former commune, notably through the role of the delegated mayor and the maintenance of a physical reception point for residents. This arrangement reflects a logic of territorial continuity and the preservation of local public services following a municipal merger.
The website valserhone.fr is the official website of the commune of Valserhône, providing administrative and practical information as well as online services for residents of the territory, including those from the delegated commune of Châtillon-en-Michaille.
