The Miramas town hall is the administrative institution representing the commune of Miramas, a French territorial authority located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It constitutes the local executive body responsible for managing municipal affairs and operates within the intercommunal framework of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, of which it is one of the member communes.
The history of Miramas is closely linked to the development of the railway, as the town experienced significant growth from the late nineteenth century onward with the establishment of a major railway marshalling yard, which durably shaped its urban and economic fabric. The municipal territory subsequently underwent a phase of industrialization, notably with the establishment of metallurgical activities, before diversifying its economy over the following decades. This history shaped an urban organization distinguishing several districts, including the historic center and more recently developed expansion areas.
The town hall exercises the usual competencies assigned to French communes: civil registry, urban planning, management of public facilities, social assistance, primary education, as well as support for local cultural, sporting and associative activities. It also intervenes in the planning of the communal territory, road maintenance, public spaces and local economic development, in connection with the competencies transferred to the metropolitan level. The institution further ensures the representation of residents before departmental, regional and national authorities, and implements the decisions of the elected municipal council.
