The commune of Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt was created through the merger, effective since 1 January 2019, of the former communes of Le Chesnay and Rocquencourt, under the framework governing new communes within French local government law. This territory lies in close proximity to Versailles, within an urban and residential area west of Paris, characterized by residential neighborhoods, public facilities and green spaces inherited from both former communal entities. The merger allowed for the pooling of certain administrative services while preserving the heritage identities of the two former villages.
The scope of the town hall's activity covers all competences assigned to French communes: civil registry, urban planning, social services, management of primary and nursery schools, maintenance of local roads, organization of elections, issuance of administrative documents, management of sports and cultural facilities, and support for local community life.
