Sobre Région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region is a French territorial authority created on 1 January 2016, following the territorial reform introduced by the law establishing a new organisation of the Republic. It resulted from the merger of the former administrative regions of Burgundy and Franche-Comté, forming since then one of the thirteen regions of metropolitan France. Its institutional seat is located in Dijon, the regional prefecture, while Besançon retains certain functions linked to the regional council, particularly in training matters. The region's territory covers eight départements: Côte-d'Or, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire and Yonne, inherited from the former Burgundy, as well as Doubs, Jura, Haute-Saône and Territoire de Belfort, from the former Franche-Comté. Located in eastern France, the region shares a border with Switzerland and occupies a crossroads position between the Paris basin, the Rhône corridor and the Rhenish area. It is characterised by a variety of landscapes, ranging from the vineyard plains of Burgundy to the mountainous massifs of the Jura. The regional council exercises the competencies granted to French regions, including economic development, spatial planning, management of regional public transport, particularly rail services, and the construction and maintenance of secondary schools. The authority also acts in the fields of vocational training, guidance, culture, tourism, environment and agriculture, in coordination with the State and other territorial levels. It furthermore holds a representative role for the territory before national and European institutions. The website bourgogne-franche-comte.eu serves as the Region's official institutional portal, presenting its competencies, news, support schemes and administrative services offered to residents, businesses and local stakeholders across the territory.
