It corresponds to the former municipal seat of the commune of Châtillon-en-Michaille, which lost its status as an independent commune when Valserhône was created as a new merged commune, combining Châtillon-en-Michaille, Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, and Lancrans, on 1 January 2017.
