The Moselle Department is a French territorial authority belonging to the Grand Est region, inheriting an administrative division dating back to the French Revolution and marked by a particular history linked to its successive attachment to different sovereignties during the 19th and 20th centuries. Its action is part of a cooperative framework with the State, the Grand Est region and the intercommunal structures of Moselle.
The Department has a structured administrative organization, led by an elected president and a deliberative assembly composed of departmental councilors representing the various cantons of the territory. This organization enables the implementation of local public policies and the management of proximity services intended for residents of the department, in the areas of competence assigned to it.
