Über Communauté d'agglomération - Grand Angoulême
The Grand Angoulême urban community is a French local authority classified as a public establishment for intercommunal cooperation. It took its current form in 2017, following the merger of several earlier intercommunal structures, and since then has brought together thirty-eight municipalities around the central city of Angoulême, which serves as its administrative seat.
The territory of the urban community is located in the Charente department, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in west-central France. It extends along the Charente river valley and combines a dense urban core centered on Angoulême with surrounding peri-urban and rural areas, forming a coherent economic and residential whole.
Like other French urban communities, Grand Angoulême exercises powers delegated by its member municipalities across various areas, including economic development, spatial planning, housing policy, organization of urban transport, waste management, environmental protection, and support for cultural and sports facilities of community-wide interest. It also plays a coordinating and planning role across its living area, working alongside departmental and regional authorities, and represents the collective interests of its member municipalities before other administrative bodies. Its community council, composed of delegates elected by the municipal councils, sets the institution's strategic and budgetary directions.
The website grandangouleme.fr is the official institutional portal of the urban community, presenting its areas of responsibility, news, administrative procedures, and practical information intended for residents and stakeholders of the territory.
