Über Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée
Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée is a French intercommunal association, a structure grouping several municipalities located in the Hérault department, in the Occitanie region. Its territory is organized around the Thau lagoon and the town of Sète, which serves as its administrative seat and main urban center. The agglomeration extends over a section of the Mediterranean coastline as well as an inland area comprising vineyards, agricultural land and natural spaces, giving it a diverse geography combining a maritime front, lagoons and rural areas.
This territorial authority resulted from a process of intercommunal consolidation undertaken during the 2010s, as part of successive reforms of French territorial organization aimed at strengthening cooperation among neighboring municipalities. It succeeded earlier intercommunal structures present around the Thau lagoon and the northern part of this territory, whose responsibilities and boundaries were gradually merged to form a single agglomeration, governed by a community council made up of elected representatives from member municipalities.
As a public body for intercommunal cooperation, Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée exercises powers delegated by its member municipalities, particularly in areas such as land planning, economic development, management of aquatic environments, public transport, housing, and environmental policies related to coastal and lagoon protection. It also acts in the fields of culture, tourism and local economic attractiveness, in coordination with departmental and regional authorities. Its role thus fits within a logic of shared public services and planning at the scale of a coherent living area, extending beyond the administrative boundaries of each individual member municipality.
The website agglopole.fr is the official institutional site of Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée, presenting the authority's responsibilities, news, governing bodies and administrative procedures.
